A maximum aperture of f/6.3 allows the lens to be shorter and lighter without significantly compromising light-gathering abilities when paired with the OSS.

Thanks to the use of a single front element, the center of gravity of the lens is shifted toward the camera body, resulting in a well-balanced design perfect for handheld use. With a length of 9.5" and weighing only 995g / 2.2 lb, this lens looks closer to a 70-200mm f/2.8 than a super-telephoto prime.

Teleconverter Compatibility

The FE 600mm f/6.3 GM OSS is compatible with the separately available Sony FE 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters. These teleconverters can be used while still retaining full autofocus and auto-exposure capabilities. When used, the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters will provide effective focal lengths and apertures of 840mm f/8 and 1200mm f/11, respectively.
