The lens is equipped with Tamron's proprietary VC mechanism, and effectively controls camera shake that can occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths. It also helps reduce fuzzy pictures when shooting handheld in low-light conditions or at slower shutter speeds. Furthermore, using AI technologies, the lens chooses the appropriate compensation characteristics for videography at focal lengths of 100mm or less.

The 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 is capable of extremely high performance when shooting close-ups, particularly for an ultra-telephoto zoom lens.
